Construction Materials Testing (CMT) primarily involves testing structural materials used to build new projects from the ground up, materials and components used to construct new additions or new components being added to an existing facility. These include earthwork, shallow and deep foundations, destructive and non-destructive concrete testing, wood construction observations, structural masonry, structural steel, sprayed on fireproofing, Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems (EIFS), roofing evaluation and testing and asphalt pavement evaluation and testing. Materials from suppliers will generally have been rigorously tested to the suppliers own standards, will generally comply with the minimum recommendations of the appropriate British Standards, and may have third party accreditation to demonstrate their quality. Therefore, when they arrive on site, the usual tests that are required are those that check the quantity received against the amount stated on the delivery note, ensuring quality is as ordered, and a visual inspection so that any damage can be flagged up straight away. Raw materials are the life blood of any manufacturing process. The quality and consistency of the raw materials ultimately affect the finished product and, as such, great care should be given to the assessment of these materials. Mistakes made at this stage of the manufacturing process often remain to dog the product throughout its life, none more so than in the construction sector. We offer a comprehensive testing service specifically geared to meet the requirements of the construction sector manufacturers (clay products, concrete products, mortar, natural and cast stone). Testing of Construction Materials provides thorough understanding of the testing techniques in the subject. A brief theory is included with each experiment to familiarize the students with the basic principles and objectives.
